Weddings

Weddings are conducted with Church of England services. They can be held at any time of the year and we would be delighted to help you prepare for your big day.

Some frequently asked questions include:

  • “Can I marry outside of my parish?”
  • “Do I need to have been baptised in order to marry in church?”
  • “What is the church’s current position on the remarriage of people who are divorced?”

You can find further information on “Your Church Wedding” website.

Baptisms

Baptisms can take place in church throughout the year. Children are brought for Baptism (Christening) as infants; some come much later in life. There is no age limit to baptism. However, teenagers and adults will normally be prepared for Confirmation at the same time as baptism.

As the person to be baptised is entering the family of the Church, most baptisms normally take place in a main Sunday service. This is so that the local family of the Church is present to welcome its new member.

Funerals

A funeral marks the close of a human life on earth. It is the opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to give thanks for the life which has now completed its journey in this world and to commend the person into God’s keeping.

A funeral service can be very short and quiet with only a few member of the family present or an occasion of great solemnity with music, hymns and a packed church. Whatever the pattern of service, the words and actions all speak of a loving God and the preciousness to Him of every human being.
